Cowl Band installation help needed
I must be an idiot asking this question but what's the trick you use to install a 30 cowl band. Body is on the frame and just trimming it out but I can't get the lower mounting bolt on the drivers side to align with the mounting hole. It appears clear and should line up from what I see. Stock cowl band came with car and it was on it when I got the car and retaining clips are in place.
Looks like a simple installation but really tight quarters to work. I'm not about to give up but I had to walk away from the car after two hours of frustration! Help appreciated! |

If you have already attached the opposite side, go back in loosen the nut almost all the way off, down to the last couple of threads. Then try again to start the second one. Once you have them both started, then tighten each side a bit at a time until you are satisfied with the results.

Keep at it. Its a bugger but it will go back on. Make sure only a couple threads are used on the first side.
Try doing the other side first if you can't get it to reach. |

Agree with post 2 and 3.
If your hand is too big get someone with a smaller hand in there to help out.

Re: Cowl Band installation help needed
Four (4) hands pushing it down at various points will help get it aligned and the second nut started. As other posters have said, only start the first side.

Re: Cowl Band installation help needed
After about two hours of struggle finally got the drivers side band threaded stud in place. Had to remove the passenger side completely and re bend (several times) the drivers side orientation of the stud. Today I tackle the passenger side. Tightening the nuts should be fun. If I ever do this again the band gets installed before the body gets mounted on the frame. Working blind in a confined place isn't fun. Lots of words I can't repeat in the presence of young ears! Thanks for the insight!
