Re: Model A Amature Radio Operators
I have a hand held one with 8 Watt output for when fishing in remote areas of Arizona as there are repeaters in areas where cell phone service is on existent. KG7SPV

Re: Model A Amature Radio Operators
Haven't done mobile for a long time. Had a modified Marconi taxi radio (tube) as first 2m FM rig, which supplanted my Heath Twoer on 2m AM. Nowadays I use a KX3 for HF but lately haven't been doing much at all on the air.

Re: Model A Amature Radio Operators
Been licensed since 1963 WA0FUD. Unfortunately ruined a really great hobby by turning it into a job, 4 years Navy, radio station engineer, railroad electronic tech 39 years. BUT now think it might be nice to get back to old hobby now that I'm retired. Would certainly be interesting to have something in common (model As) to talk about on the air. Also was a previous Model Aer 1975-78, sold car due to family obligations, bought a 31 slant in 2011 and now trying to get up to speed with that.

KG6JSL. Been trying to talk people in the Club into getting licensed. Not much success.

Re: Model A Amature Radio Operators
KC0REK here. I have a small dual band handheld but haven't really been on air in years. I just don't seem to have the time lately. One of these days I'd like to get back into it some more.

Re: Model A Amature Radio Operators
In my younger years I was very interested in Amateur Radio. Even took the classes to become one, but couldn't quite master Morse Code. Even built a practice key set from an antique telegraph key.

Re: Model A Amature Radio Operators
Carl,
when I was in school I could never make the code test stick. But the club still let me work on antennas and participate. Fast forward to 2014, got my Tech ticket and started to radiate. Then 6 months later my General ticket and started chasing DX, Last year Amateur Extra ticket and have DXCC application in. It is never too late to start, the best part is the diversity of activity in HAM radio. You can play with low band or chase satellites. If you can find a way to make a Tarheel ant look like it belongs on a Vicky, you can probably fit in a nice little amp too. 73 de K6KZE

Re: Model A Amature Radio Operators
It was something I was always interested in but never did.
But what I did do over the past few weeks was get this old '47-'49 Hallicrafters out of storage, cleaned it thoroughly and replaced the electrolytic capacitor and it works! Had this radio when I was a kid, strung an antenna between the house and barn and listened to all sorts of things...including Wolfman Jack.... Randy

Re: Model A Amature Radio Operators
First licensed in 1958, KN6CEX, was only on CW. Current license is KE6SN, however have not been on the air for years. Have a few early Hallicrafters 30's, 40's and 50's. Always thought when I get old I would get back on the air.
