Default C59A Crank Pulley - Installation/Removal

I want to install the original crank pulley on my engine so I can mock things up to determine the correct belt size for the water pumps and generator. As the engine was disassembled when I purchased it, I have no idea as to how hard or easy the pulley should be to install or remove. Right now it goes on easily for the first inch or so and then gets stuck. I see that the crank shaft seems to have two diameters where the pulley should rest. The same goes for the pulley diameter. It seems there is a center section with a slightly smaller diameter on the crank, and it seems the one end of the pulley (nearest the engine) has a larger diameter. In any event, I just want to use this pulley to mock things up and I plan on getting another pulley. The issue is I do not want to get this pulley stuck on there. So should I be able to tap the pulley on or off, or does it require a puller to get it off?

Thanks. That's what my machinist said. I'm going clean up the crank shaft with some 600 grit paper, and try to clean up the bore on the pulley with my Dremel. There are nicks on both the crank and pulley surfaces.

I use a fine India stone on shafts that have little dents just to take the high spots down. I polish with fine paper or Scotch-Brite after that. You want that pulley so go on snug so don't take too much off. You can run a brake hone inside the pulley just to clean up any corrosion but don't get carried away.
