I have a stock clutch with a balanced fly wheel coupled to a 35 transmission via an adapter and cannot get the clutch adjustment just right. the disc is new and perhaps I should have replaced the pressure plate but I did not.my question is....would the v8 pressure plate or the ford tractor plate make a difference? the fly wheel has been lightened and I never miked the depth to the contact surface....that being too deep could cause this situation.
any body with a 35 trans in an A have this?

What is or isn’t happening? For example clutch won’t release or clutch slips. Or is it linkage?

it does not slip on a steep hill when starting from a stop..it just doesn't start to grab when the pedal is released like all the other A's I owned or operated.
could be the fly wheel resurfacing and I have to live with it.

it doesn't slip when starting on a steep hill ...it just doesn't engage until the pedal is almost fully extended and I have attempted many different adjustments to get it where I am used to on several past a's .

it does not slip when starting on a steep hill....on level ground it is not fully engaged until almost the full pedal travel range. I can live with it but do not like it. should be able to adjust it out though.

Same question as Chuck. And, what does 'just right' mean ? Free-play should be about 1.5". Anything from 1" to 2" should work fine.

please define what you mean as free play.....I have the min. so as not to engage the throw out bearing....never though to have it so much when fully engaged.....I could try it.

in florida now and when I return to VT I will attempt extensive adjustment ranges but there is a need to allow for some minimal free play in the pedal....

Thru the trans access hole, measure the finger height on the PP, they must be equal.
After making sure they are equal, adj "free play".

the fingers were measured on a surface plate and a dial indicator and they are level all prior to installation. the clutch does not slip when tested on a steep hill it just does not fully engage until almost full extended....

did this on a surface plate and dial indicator....the free play is there but minimal at the pedal when extended....adjusted properly but does not immediately engage.....

It sounds like you need to increase the free play.
