Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
Hello. Yes, that would be something a flathead enthusiast might want. The Stromberg carbs are also something that people go for. The big stud at the front is where the generator attaches.

Wonder if the barb fitting tapped in the top between carbs is a factory job?

While that setup is desirable (especially with those carburetors), it is not a sought after rare collectible. |

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
The carbs may be mounted further forward because it is an 8BA type, which can typically have the generator further forward to line up with the belts.

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
Would a better pic of full length tell you more if it does in fact have carbs mounted forward?

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
That would help. The Edmunds 8BA dual manifolds I have seen have the "Edmunds" script between the front of the manifold and the front carb, not between the carbs like yours. These will allow the generator to be mounted in the conventional position. I couldn't be sure about yours unless I measured it or tried a generator, but I don't think a generator would fit. Edmunds made several varieties of 8BA dual manifolds including a "Super" for 4 bolt carbs, so it's hard to know. Here's a picture of a more common Edmunds 8BA dual. Note the difference in the distance between the front carb and the generator mount.

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
The first regular dual I ran on my '51 was an Edmunds like the one pictured above. The can ran OK, but the carb placement and spacing just looked odd imo, and like no other regular 8BA I've ever seen. I eventually sold it and installed an Edelbrock regular dual that has "normal" carb placement and spacing. I remember the buyer was Charlie Price of Vintage Speed who was collecting Edmunds products at that time.

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
Now that I clearly see the manifold, it has the overall design and carb placement like most regular 8BA duals. The picture of Tubman's is the odd one I described in my previous post.

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
The intake is a later one and 49-53 had a generator mount and strap as pictured is needed to run a gennie on the 49-53. This would move it out a bit to fit your generator. Thats a nice setup and worth a few bucks as the carbs are desirable 1935 1936 1937 large logo 97 carb

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
The O/P's manifold seems to have less than 6" clearance between the generator mount and the front carb. I don't have anything here in Florida to measure, but I don't think that's near enough for a regular Ford generator. It is probably plenty for an alternator.
"V8 Bob" - It's odd, but all of the 8BA Edmunds dual manifolds I have seen look like the picture I posted. It's why I have always referred to the Edmunds as "the ugliest manifold in existence". I just noticed the 97's match; that's a plus as well. |

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
As you see in the picture the generator will be moved forward and clears the carburetor. This is on a 53 Mercury motor thin belt gennie and with the strap that hold the generator you move it more forward with the twin belt system. The center line for the belt is 3.250 that is on the water/generator and second belt center line is 3.750 running the fan/waterpump. This is why it works as it moves the generator forward to run water pumps.

Re: Edmunds manifold, Twin Stromberg 97 carbs
49-53 generator with strap mount and early edmunds with early style gennie
