It was called the economy, listed for $495. Had a modelA engine, rear end , automotive? 3speed tranny and two wheel mechanical brakes. 500 made in 38/39. If you have the Napa tractor calendar , it's this months photo. Pretty cool!

Re: 1938 model A powered Sears tractor
The engine I currenly have on the engine stand was removed from a home made tractor and used a TT Ruxtell rear end. It was quite the contraption. I wish I would have taken pic's of it before I parted it out 15 years ago. It was still in decent running condition. Rod

Re: 1938 model A powered Sears tractor
They are not really all that rare. Typically they were found in areas where row crops were farmed. They did not make a standard or wheatland version. I've seen about a half dozen sell here in PA. 30 years ago there were still some out "in the rough" Most now are in collections, but still come up for sale from time to time.

Re: 1938 model A powered Sears tractor
The introduction of the Ford 9N in 1939 would have thrown a wrench into the cog for most smaller tractors with a price of only $585.00. With the Ferguson system 3-point hitch and a PTO, it would have been hard to beat. The Ferguson hydraulic 3-point hitch that Ford developed to actually work well, really revolutionized the farm implement capability of tractors in general. Draw bar only tractor designs started to fade away after the advent of the 3-point.
