Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
I mix it with my gas when I fill up. It's supposed to lube the valves. Who am I to argue?

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
I think the verdict is in. MMO is great stuff!! I can testify that it may a world of difference in my 37 Ford. When I purchased it, it was missing very badly. In fact, there were times when I thought I would never get back home. I began adding MMO to the gasoline and gradually the miss has disappeared. I have done nothing else except the MMO. The last oil change I added a quart of MMO to the crankcase and could not believe how much smoother the car ran coming home. I have no dog in this fight. I just know that MMO works and has been doing so since 1923. I am concerning buying some stock in the company.

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
I also use 4 oz at every fill up and it helped to remedy a sticking valve on a Flathead V8 and figured it could help the 4 banger too.

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
Can/should MMO be added to synthetic oils such as Penn Grade High Performance Green, Mobil 1 etc. or is it strictly for petroleum based oils??

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
Last Summer the Barners had some great discussions on vapor lock during the hot weather. The MMO seemed to help your gasoline from not boiling away in the carb and fuel line. I have always used it in my Model A's and never had vapor lock issues. Also the new gasohol is a good solvent to wash off any oil films on the valve stems, cylinder walls, etc.
My father told me a story of his first Ford V8 (I am thinking it was a 1935). He operated a Gulf Oil station before he went to serve in the Army during WWII. He put on one of the MMO automatic oilers on his car. It was connected to the vacuum hose and would meter in a little MMO when the engine was running. He was constantly doing valve jobs on their customers' engines and part of that job was that he had to de-carbon the piston tops and chambers. After he had around 50,000 miles on his V8 he thought it would be a good time to give it a preventive maintance valve job. He was surprised and very happy to see after he removed the engine heads that everything was clean looking and his valves showed little to no wear. He just buttoned it back up and this Ford served the family for a long time and he drove it briefly upon his return from the War. He got new car fever and bought a brand new Kaiser. He used either kerosene and / or MMO to soak overnight the carboned up pistons and heads in and the next day the carbon would just wipe off with a shop rag. |

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
I have never used Marvel Mystery Oil and have never had a miss in my Model A engine, a stuck valve or lack of power for the last 28 years. I think the stuff is snake oil....but if it makes some people feel better about their cars, so be it. It reminds me of the $15. dollar can of wax sitting on the shelf in the Auto Store next to the $5. dollar can. Both products have the same ingredients but some people feel that if they spend more, the product must be better.

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
I try and remember to add MMO every time I gas up one of my "A's". I also add it to my '29 Chevy which I believe helped with a vapor lock
problem. Plus, I'm sure using only non-ethenol gas helps too. Bob-A |

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
I have used marvel mystery oil in my motor oil, it seems to clean like a detergent. Speaking of additives. I have used 1/4 a bottle of seafoam in my motorcycle fuel for each tank a few times per season and it does clean the valves pretty good.

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
Go to my profile and you will see a couple of pictures of a 1938 Allis Chalmers Mod.B tractor that I restored. When I first got it, the engine was stuck, something that A.C.s are known for. MMO Loosened the engine. This is a crank start, no electrical system.
Prior to that, I used to think that MMO was just another "Product". Granted the stuff has been around since the twenties, but there's a new crop of suckers every minute. I was on a similar forum , but for Ford 9,2,8, Ns. There was this guy, Dell, who had worked as an engineer for Boeing who disdained all additives in engines Except MMO! I also knew a couple of guys who ran their own Backhoes and they all use MMO in their fuel and swear by it. Terry |

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
My wife an i just drove our 56 ford fairlane town sedan to florida, we live in north ga, i noticed it was running rough and did not wont to idle, i put 1/2 qt mmo in the oil and 1/2 in fuel tank, i noticed it seemed to run smoother and when i stopped it would idle. Don"t ask me why it is a mystery. I also use it in my a"s .

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil
I love that stuff.....never used it in a Model A....but only because I've never had one until just recently. It has saved me and some of my customers several times.
