Default 32 exhaust routing

On my 32 highboy build with flat head. Saw this on the Hamb and was wondering if this was the routing out the back for original exhaust. My rear cross member already has one hole on the right. I think mine was originally a 4 banger frame.

Seems that the exhaust pipe would do a lot of banging around in those holes. Asbestos belting would work if you could find it.

Originally all fours and LHD drive V-8 exhaust pipes were routed through a hole in the front vertical surface of the right side of the rear cross member. The pipe of a RHD V-8 was routed down the left side of the chassis through the same sort of hole on the left side of the rear cross member (the rear cross member of RHD chassis was unique as all LHD chassis rear cross members did not have that hole on the left side -- it has been added to the cross member in your photo).

The pipes do not "bang around" as the short rearmost pipe and the longer pipe attached to the rear of the muffler are joined together at the rear cross member and held in place with a clamp that is bolted to the front lip of the cross member as shown below.

HI,

I just finished my rear hangers yesterday. I'm running 1 3/4" exhaust pipe and also wasn't sure to do about the rear hangers, I had also asked here a few months ago about what to do about the rear 32 hanger that is not currently reproduced.

I ended up buying and modifying hanger bracket 48-5259 Bracket with rubber bushing, used at muffler outlet on 35-37s. I had cut a hole on the left of the rear cross-member to match the right a long time ago.

ct1932, looks great. Do you have a picture of the tailpipe end, near the gas tank?
