Default Acorn nuts for cylinder heads

I retorqued the heads on my engine this weekend and managed to break two of the nut covers on the heads. I see the nuts covers are available readily, but does anyone use actual acorn nuts on the heads. If so , who is a good suppliers for those?

Thanks,

John

Are you saying that you re-torqued the heads with the nut covers in place?
If so, just replace the broken ones with new ones.

Someone on Ebay lists acorn nuts for around $250.00 set of 48. Acorn nut cover sets for $15.00. Real acorn nuts are definitely form over function.

Took all the nut covers off, and found corrosion under several of them. I initially didn't realize they were just covers.

So is it correct to have the covers, or is that just a dress-up item added by owners?

There are considerably cheaper prices than $250 for actual acorn nuts if you buy from a hardware vendor. If someone wanted to get together a number of buyers, they can be had in quantity at a relatively cheap price.

Got my "real" acorn nuts from Flathead Jack for $125 per set of 48.

Just a dress up item that has been added.

Real acorn nuts don't weep coolant when you have studs. I heard somewhere that some Model A's had them from the factory.
