Here's an interesting side note. A couple of years ago the fan bearing on my '51 starting making a noise. While I had it out to repair, I put in a fan carrier I had for another engine. There was no fan with it, so I used an aftermarket flex fan. In the two weeks I used that, I noticed that the car ran a little warmer than with the stock unit. "51 Merc" was probably right using an OEM fan.

One thing for sure there are as many variations of fans being used as there are stars in the sky. Kinda like motor oil use what makes you feel good. Lot of good fan info here and gives me something to think about.
