Default The Titans That Built America

In this History Channel series, Season 1, Episode 1, they have Walter Chrysler developing the new 6 cyl Chrysler 70. Funny thing, the car he is working on with sheets draped on it is a Model A! You see the wheels, goose neck, spark plug connectors, firewall, etc. You'd think they could dig up a real 70 for a day or two for the workshop shots and long range shots for the speed tests. The speed test shots of a Fordor in the show are from a distance anyway

Also, when showing the "New Ford" on stage they have a '31 slant window sedan with sealed beam headlights. It's an interesting series but when you spot inconsistencies like those you wonder about the credibility of all the other "facts" on a historical show.

The people that the shows are meant for you could of swapped it out for a 40 Ford and wouldn't know the difference. If you have ever watched Downton Abbey every time a car takes off they dub in a model a . I liked it better when the history channel showed real history documentaries not this fluffy crap they pass off for it.

They have a tendency to concentrate on the drama more than the substance on those type of low budget documentaries. They tell a part of the history but it can also have a bit of a slant to it that is not all that necessary in my opinion.

The car cover was the first indication that they probably did not have a Chrysler 70 - the engine compartment was clearly Model A. Still a good flick. Of all the B-24s Ford built only a single example has survived and is located at the Air Park at Barksdale AFB, LA.

I noticed all those inaccuracies too. Stuff like that drives me nuts, especially in war movies! Also, I know Henry could be a bastard....but EVERY interaction between him and Edsel in the show seemed to be mean and vindictive. Was Henry really like that to his son? Was Edsel really meak and scared of dad?

I hear he was on Edsel's case all the time.

Guy in our local Model-A club also has a Chrysler coupe, that is unrestored. They are kinda hard to come by. Let's face it guys, if you owned a General Electric Deluxe Pickup, how crazy would you be about a truck showing up to borrow it for 12 - 14 weeks? I notice those things too, but I tend to forget about that. Remember, we are 1 or 2% of the people watching.

The movie companies pay serious rent on and insure such things, so it wouldn't be just a truck showing up to borrow.

Way back in the 1970's a friend "rented" his 1956 Cadillac for a movie. Gary couldn't go that day so he asked me to take his car down.

I remember they had to shoot the scene over and over, about 20 times, and slammed the door hard each time they shot the scene.

Kinda gave me an ill feeling.

They also use really stupid looking phones that are not only not period correct but way off on the looks. (I am also a phone collector)
