Engine number illegible
Any way to recover the illegible engine number. Firewall has a number but still would like the engine number. Seems like I remember guns with serial numbers removed and number being recovered somehow.
Thanks, Dick |

Re: Engine number illegible
Of course you could lift the body and look under the driver's left foot area on the frame rail and maybe get the number there.
It might not be the number of the engine (engines got replaced) but certainly the case could be made that is the number of YOUR car (and not somebody else's replacement engine.) I presume you're in the act of getting a first registration? If so and if the number pad on the engine is smooth enough to stamp you might try getting a set of number stamps and "transferring" the number from the rail before the official confirmation of number. Others will tell you their experiences in doing this. I have not transferred but I have re-upped a Cow Hampshire title on the basis of a bill of sale from another state and a visual from the local gendarmes. Joe K

Has anybody tried these methods and what seemed to work the best?
