Thanks for your patience and kindness. I'll have a look in the morning and send some pics if I don't understand what I see. It's been such a fun and dependable car, I hate to think I messed that up, but at least I'm learning some new stuff

Anyway, the switch that was in theredid not look quite like these but I attached wires to the positive and then to a ground. Nothing. I thought I may have gotten them wrong so I switched and the brake light came on constantly. So then, I think I messed up. I pulled the little pin part of the switch back towards the back of the car to see if it would do anything and it looks like I may have shorted it as nothing wants to come on at all now. Crap! I am charging the battery now as it was pretty low but I'm scared I did something really bad. Any thoughts? Thanks

Certainly didn't mean to hijack anything. This was and is a discussion on brake light switches, their appearance and cautions about them. It seemed like an appropriate group to ask my question tagging on to the previous discussion.

So the New Year seems to have brought some good news. There is indeed a fuse holder on the starter like the one Bob C posted above. Also someone bypassed the old fuse bracket and put in a holder for a modern 30 amp fuse, which is blown. Sooo, I will go get a new fuse and see if she fires up! Is there anything else I need to do? I so appreciate everyone's help here and when I decide to try the brake light project again and have questions I swear I'll start a new thread

Thanks guys, I did find my answer, drove it all around today. I assume that is one of the goals of this group, enjoying your car, not sniping new members 10 min before New Years, you stay classy PickupMan.
Thanks again to everyone who helped, how sweet is life when a blown fuse fixes everything!
