1930 Model A Deluxe Pickup
As I research WWII to complete a history of the final days of the Reich in Southern Europe (as if I don't have enough to do already), I came across this increadibly interesting 1939-1940 photograph of the Nazi's escorting Polish POWs by the remains of a 1930 Ford Delux Pickup...parts robbed for other important necessities...All wheels, pass headlight, who know what robbed from the engine, and from the passenger seat...I wonder what happened to that picup...
Oh, this photo was labeled "Minsk"... Last edited by swo4rd; 07-02-2021 at 06:43 AM. Reason: add location |

Don,
My 'wonderment' is even broader to include how did they remove all the destroyed tanks and crashed aircraft from their front & back yards ?? How do you cut up & remove a Panzer tank or four B-17 engines from your corn field ?? jb |

Re: 1930 Model A Deluxe Pickup
Did pickups come in 'standard' and 'deluxe'? I never knew that....
Thanks |

In mid 1931 Ford introduced the "Deluxe Pickup" that featured a more stylish bed, chromed radiator shell, cowl band, and rails on the bed as well as cowl lights. Only 4,145 of these were produced. Several examples survive today. thf141833.jpg The picture that swo4rd posted is of a Russian built GAZ truck. -Tim

Thanks, WTSHNN. I've seen pics of those, but thought they were 'custom' built, not by Ford...

Interesting pic that WTSHNN has posted..
It is true that the cab and bed were one piece?? This might rile up my Aussie brothers!! I've always been led to believe Australia to be the home of the original "ute"!! |

Just behind the door you'll see three carriage bolt heads. These went through the bedside and into the corner of the cab. Inside the cab were unique wood blocks to secure the bed to the cab.

That photo is from the Federal Archives of Germany (Bundesarchiv Bild 146-1982-077-11) and according to the caption that accompanies the photo, it show German soldiers keeping watch over Russian prisoners of war as they are marched through Minsk (Belarus - one of the republics in the Soviet Union). The photo is dated 2 July 1941. The vehicle in the photo is/was a Russian GAZ-4 (produced from 1933 - 1936). Here are a couple other photos of GAZ-4's: Brad in Maryland Last edited by Brad in Germany; 07-05-2021 at 03:24 AM. |
