Re: UPS wants $433 for shipping
If you are wanting to ship a rear fender of that vintage, check out the boxes at your local bicycle shop. Bike boxes are just the right size for shipping rear fenders. I got two '36 fenders shipped from California to Colorado and suggested to the seller to check it out. They worked great and shipping was only $40!

Grey Hound, ABF Freight or Old Dominion. All cheaper than UPS when it comes to oversized parts. You can clasisfy it as used car parts instead of a fenders to get a better price when it comes to motor freight. Rod

Re: UPS wants $433 for shipping
Fed Ex. Purchased (2)'46 rear fenders from Iowa, from a seller here on the Barn. He packaged them - wrapped in foam and in wood box he made. The cost to northern Cal was around $80. Fed Ex picked up at his house, I picked up at the local Fed Ex warehouse. Did this all on line with the Fed Ex website. Easy. The seller in my case used a 1x2 wood frame with a plywood veener, thin stuff, that is all it takes. Used 1 1/2 inch screws to hold it together. This is easy stuff.

I just shipped a rear model A fender to WI from TN with some other stuff in the box and it was $180 going FedEx; I under-guessed the weight. I would consider FedEx. Some folks rave about Fastenal but I am not sure how that works. |

wga--glad to hear the fenders got there in great shape. They were super nice woodie fenders that I didn't want any risk of damage. I did spend quite a bit of time crating them and glad to hear that FedEx got the job done. Good luck on your wagon project.

You guys can always try fastenal's 3pl service. Because they have their own trucking system, they piggy back on their trucks with the open space. Was told it is pretty reasonable.

Re: UPS wants $433 for shipping
I just paid 75 bucks to box and ship a Chevy artillery wheel thru ups ground from Atl Ga. to Cali. I about fell to the ground when the clerk told how much I owed. I only payed 16 bucks for it at the swap meet. Also a couple years ago I shipped a exterior sun visor that I created in wood on Greyhound right at a 100 bucks. This here hobby is expensive. Randy
