Brake Assembly
I'm trying to assemble rear brakes of the '48 era. I have the backing plates on the bench to (hopefully) make things easier. My problem is installing the clips that hold the shoes against the backing plates. I have everything else in place and I'm fighting like crazy to get the clips in. Should I have had them in place before I placed the shoes? Is there an age old secret technique I've never been exposed to? Thanks for any help!!

Re: Brake Assembly
I put them in the backing plate prior to putting the shoes on. I don't see how you would be able to install them after...

Re: Brake Assembly
OK. Thanks! I wound up trying that on the last of the four and it worked. Do you have the return spring hooked between the two shoes when you install them? Or, do you get the shoes in place and then use the "brake pliers" to stretch the spring afterwards?

Re: Brake Assembly
I had to put the clips in place first. Then shoes, then spring. I used my improvised pliers made from loppers.
