Era Tennessee plates $$$

Why are Tennessee era Model A plates so valuable?
I have a collection of plates from the states for the Model A years hanging in my garage, along with a few from Canada & New Zealand. I got them at swap meets and off eBay for a few dollars each.
The one plate I don’t have is from Tennessee and the prices seem unusually high on eBay

They used to be reasonable 5-10 years ago. Singles are still ok but matched pairs go pretty high.
Lots listed for high dollars…..unsure if they sell or not. They seem to appear by same vendors.

The '29 NC plate is twice the price of the '30 plate. It's a combination of supply and aesthetics – some color combinations look nicer and are in higher demand.

Vern, what "era" are you looking for? I may know where there is a 1933 single plate that might be able to be purchased. No sure if she has both or just the single.

Try looking at the ones for California, ... You'll need to sell an arm or a leg to get a really nice pair.

What do you consider a high price? Decent usable plates from that era sell for $45.per pair here in N.H.That seems to be what they actually sell for,a lot of guys put high prices on them at first,but then they just sit there.I kind of thought 32-33-34 plates might bring more for the street rod guys,but not so.We can only use YOM plates on stock antiques,and street rods have to be registered as street rods,with the N.H.street rod plate.I have a couple pair of black plates from California,one set came with a 61 Valiant brought here in the early 70's,and another pair came with a 55 Chevy that came here at the same time.I never looked into their value,they are just some odd stuff I like to keep.

You should try to get Oklahoma plates from the '30's...they're all in California

At a recent swap meet I saw a guy with a pretty nice unrestored 1931 SC plate. Just a little rust. He wanted $450. Lol

I picked up '28 through '31 Florida plates some years ago. So I was covered for any year "A" I bought. The '31 I had restored (my '31 roadster is not) so the plate sits on a shelf. Yes, supply and demand, but anymore these days greed is a big factor.

I also have the '31 and '33 Florida state vanity plates. It would be nice to find the '30 and '32 ones. But, I probably will not be able to afford them.

off topic- once bought a 55 T bird from AZ

came with solid copper antique tags, issued in the 1970s

The first two digits on the South Dakota plates identitye county that issued the plates.
39- was issued in Jackson County. I have many plates from Hutchinson County 37.

A usable unrestored, matching pair of 1929 Texas plates will set a person back $800-$1,000

I was lucky that our ‘29 Roadster came with California Year of Manufactured (YOM) Plates when we bought it in 2014.

I’ve been looking for YOM for my ‘30 Roadster at swap meets and on-line and they run from $300 to $350 a pair in good condition. I might just restore the original plates, it might be cheaper.

Greed has nothing to do with plate prices. A pair of High dollar plates usually indicate that they are “clear” and can be used as YOM plates in some states. I’ve found the best source for plates are flea markets and garage sales

I just put a good pair of New York 1929 plates on e-bay.

Used them on our 29 for years when it was registered in that state.

You need to get plates approved, can’t be restored (re painted) in N.Y.
