That DOES appear to be the B-17286 snap ring that "19Fordy" points-out. The size looks correct compared to the guy's finger. Gotta have that ring to hold that speedo gear in the right place. DD |

Re: 1939’ Deluxe 2DR Sedan
nomad; That torque tube seal is made buy Bruces Rod Shop, 6721 Klein Cemetery Rd, Spring, TX 77379, phone 281-376-5932. It is used to prevent the gear oil in the rear end from draining into the torque tube, especially on cars that have a "rake". Having a "rake" drains your banjo of gear oil. Over the years, that gear oil will also dissolve the rubber encasing the torque tube center bearing. It turns to mush as shown below. I installed that torque tube seal on my 40 in 2017 as my 40 is severely "raked". Be sure to save that piece as it is custom made and others may need it. It appears that you have the later version. If you do decide to use that seal, the instructions say to install an axel tube vent. The one shown in photo 6 below is home made. Picture 5 is a NOS torque tube center bearing. I have seen an aftermarket seal available on Fordbarn by "Skip".

Re: 1939’ Deluxe 2DR Sedan
19Forty , thanks.
Our 39’ definitely has its share of back to front rake. This seal adapter was found while removing original Henry torque tube . It was covered with tons of Silicone. They even filled the splines up. Original shaft / tube is in process of being replaced by a Mitchell OD unit. New seal to go in adapter is ordered from NAPA as I plan to reuse it. Stretch |

Well hold on here son. Yep I got a little ahead of myself again. The Tin seal retainer does not fit inside the rear of Mitchell OD.

We ordered a “Quiet Ride” firewall pad. Anyone have experience with this brand ?
And how to go about removing the original firewall pad retaining hardware ? T/Y. Stretch |

Re: 1939’ Deluxe 2DR Sedan
I am more than a little confused once again, especially when it comes to Technology.
I take pictures in shop with iPhone. Go in house later and they automatically load onto our IPad. I post pictures on The HAMB , and they come out ok. I post pictures on The Fordbarn, and they come out turned 90 degrees. 🤔 . Stretch |

Re: 1939’ Deluxe 2DR Sedan

It has to do with the fact that some programs–especially older image programs–will just load the image and ignore the Exif Orientation tag, displaying the image in its original, unrotated state. Newer programs that obey Exif tags will show the image with its correct rotation, so an image may appear to have different rotations in different applications. This problem can occur in practically any software, from a program on your PC to a website or a mobile app. Photos may appear correctly on your computer but appear in the wrong rotation when you upload them to a website. Photos may appear correctly on your phone but incorrectly when you transfer them to your PC. In other words, somewhere in your iPhone, or in this older FordBarn software, or maybe even a combination of the two, The "EXIF" Orientation softwares are not talking fluently with each other. So, that is why I ALWAYS hit the "Preview Post" BUTTON before posting any picture here on the 'Barn to make sure that it will appear as intended. That way if there is a problem, I can rotate the image on the computer like I did with yours. Secondly, I've always used a real camera (not an iPhone or such) to take pictures...NEVER a problem. I don't need to hear ALL sorts of whiny excuses from smart phone users after my last statement! Overall, the current FordBarn software is a breeze for me to use, as I've just invested a little time over the years to play with it and learn the quirks, and the PLUSES! Coop |

O Boy, I am going to have to call in our Niece to guide me through this one. Thanks Coop.
On a positive note. Don’t you know 5 Firefighters from my former job came over last evening and it’s now up under the Sedan. Resting on 4 Post Lift Ramps. Must be they still like me . Stretch |

Stretch....It's way cool that your buds still love ya and helped you out with the install! Now, just forget all of that rhetorical B/S that I threw at you in post #77 above. It really doesn't help you much at all. Here's the ONE statement out of it all that will help. When you post pictures, get in the habit of hitting that "PREVIEW POST" button to check your pics before you hit the "SUBMIT REPLY" button. In a nutshell, here's what I had to do to make your picture "straight-up". First, I right-click on your picture. From the drop-down box, I "SAVE IMAGE AS" on my computer. I then right-click on that SAVED image, and from the drop-down box I click "EDIT". On my Windows 10 computer, "PAINT Program" opens up with the image laying on it's side. Toward the top/left, I rotate the image to straight-up. Then, I put the cursor on ANY random point on the picture and left-click once, leaving a tiny black dot on the surface where you placed the cursor....ALMOST imperceptible. Then, when you go to "X-out" of the PAINT program, it will give you the option to "SAVE CHANGES" or some such. Click on SAVE! Now, with the corrected (upright) image saved in your image files, you can now go ahead and post the CORRECTED image. I know, it sounds like it's very complicated, but once you get used to doing something like that, it's a snap. Once I decided to "FIX" your crooked picture, I had it straightened-out and re-posted in well under two minutes....probably more like one minute PLUS! But learn to use that "PREVIEW POST" button religiously! Coop . |

Re: 1939’ Deluxe 2DR Sedan
So I have done a ton of reading back in Fordbarn archives pertaining to U Joint Coupler . I now have JD Cornhead Grease.
My question is how much Grease to squeeze in ? The outer clam shell lower half grease fitting lines up with the hole in inner shell. Would I be better off temporarily removing that grease fitting, and use a needle adapter on grease gun ? I ask the amount because the Mitchell front tube does not have a speedo hole on top side . Cable gets extended back to OD unit. In general do you guys remember how much of a full tube it should take ? Thank You Stretch |
