Default Harbor Freight Electric Hoist

Any one have one of Harbor Freights electric hoist? IF so, Like, Dis-Like, pro's, cons?? ALSO do you have it mounted to a I beam trolley.....I was reading one place that mounting it to an I Beam trolley was a little bit of a task??? I want to get one for my gantry crane for helping lift things around my shop SO I don't have to rely on my son and or two friends to help me lift heavy items. Thanks for your input!!

I build fiberglass boats with a guy. For the past 3 years we have been using 4 of the HF hoists to lift and lower the boat's cap onto the hull as well as lifting boats to slide a trailer under them. Ours are fixed in a drive through frame so I cant help with any info on mounting to a trolley. So far they have been working great.

No experience with H.F. hoists. I do have two beam trolley's on different beams, one has an electric hoist the other a chain fall. It allows side to side movement which is helpful at times. The trolley itself are easy to attach. The difficult part is lifting the hoist up to get them hooked, they can be heavy. A gantry with wheels might work for you depending how smooth your floor is. Just be careful moving it with a load.

I have one and it needs to be mounted level so the cable tracks correctly.

I've had the 1300 lb. capacity for a long time and never had a problem with it!

I think it has 8mm threaded bosses in the back plate. I ran four pieces of rod up through the ceiling with a steel plate. The rods straddle 4-2 X 8'S with the steel plate on top.

I also have looked into these and I couldn’t figure a safe, secure way to mount to my beam trolley. I watched the online sales sites and managed to find a Milwaukee 1-ton electric with a trolley and a spreader bar. If you’re persistent in your search, you’ll find one…….Mark

Found a good one on youtube, it uses two I Beam trolleys to keep it level. He removed the existing mounting hardware and he used two (what appears to be) at least 3" x 3" angle running parallel to the beam on each side of the beam and bolted to the frame of the hoist. He drilled a hole on each side and on each end and ran the through bolt of the I beam trolley through the upper part of the angle. Very slick mounting

That sounds like a solid way to mount it……….Mark

I just picked it up last night, the gantry crane they had to order in for me. I will post pictures as I get mine made up for anyone in the future thinking of getting one. I also got a 1 ton chain hoist to so I will have both on my crane just in case I need to support a bare frame or something sort of wide I can support it from both sides!!! For anyone who is interested I also got a HF 30" sheet metal brake AND did some youtube searches and found several modifications for that, I have modified mine and "enhanced" a few of those mods IF anyone is interested in seeing that? Thanks for all the responses!!

My experience is HF stuff will work or break the first time you use it. Lot of the heavier stuff is decent. Might need some mod's over time to work better. So if you are handy.

The predator motors they sell for minibikes and gokarts are very good.

only thing I don't like about electric hoists is all the hoists I've used tend to pick too fast and what ever you're picking tends to bounce. just my opinion!
