Default For V8-60 'Fans'...."Fred A" Talks FANS!

Helping "Fred A" once again, posting some of his thoughts and visuals on early wind-makers. Coop

FROM Fred Albrecht:

The two-blade fan came from my '40/60hp engine. The '40 project is cancelled and the other applications will need a generator fan. Where are these long fans measured from? The construction of the red fan looks like a cousin of the original so more likely to be 60hp. The black four blade is unknown to me while being a bit shorter. Wadup? Fred A

Lawson mentions 4 1/8" on the hub. Is that the hub length overall or something else.? While trying to ID the two generator fans the red one is 4 1/2" behind the fan and the black one is 3 3/4 behind the fan. Sure look like Ford, but what? Thanks: Fred A

Fred: The books and parts dealers tell me that the fan on a 60HP has a 4 1/8" hub. That is measuring from the base of the hub, where it mounts on the generator, to the back of the fan blades where they attach to the hub. The black 4 blade fan in your picture appears to be the fan I am looking for to go with the engine I am restoring that will go to the V8 museum when I ride off into the sunset. 3 3/4" is close enough for me as I cannot locate one that is 4 1/8" anywhere. I have seen pictures of a 4 1/8 hub fan, but the unnamed parts dealer does not want to sell it.

If you are interested in parting with the black fan please let me know. That comes closer than anything I have come up with to date to go on the 60HP I am restoring. Send me a PM or email at [email protected]

Lawson

Newc's had some damage to the blades which I attempted to straighten out. I think I did a pretty good job but I'm always trying to upgrade if I can. Fred A's fan looks unscathed.

Kurt: I certainly would appreciate your checking on the fan and the pulley you have to see if they are correct size and original. I really have pretty much of an obsession with restoring this engine 100% correctly. Thanks, Lawson

I'll take the 32 Fan you got Lawson IF you up grade. Throw it on the pile of Mercury part I have there I will settle up with you and get it when I come fetch the Mercury stuff "soon".
