Default timing again

Sorry did not want to hijack other forum question about timing.

1951 Mercury engine replacement in my 1941 ford to replace the 8BA that was in it before.
I am a little dyslexic so I am having trouble figuring something out. Got it running really well. Timing set by vacuum to best result. Motor in great shape by the way.
Problem I have is the the timing mark with a light is quite a bit to the left of the timing mark pointer. It moves further to the left with more acceleration. It is a chevy distributor conversion. To the left I mean as you look from above.
Where my dyslexic stuff comes in is that I think its after tdc. But that makes no sense.
I guess a question is it possible to pull Dist and move it over slightly and re install it? I thought I had it dead on as per all instruction I have read here on forum. Started with tdc, rotor pointer at the number 1 position on cap etc. It is now at tdc mark but rotor is about half a distance to next position from lining up.
Hope this makes sense.

It is not after TDC, it is before TDC. If it runs well, leave it be.

Flatjack9 is correct it's before TDC or advanced. If you are accustomed to timing a Chevy V8's it's a little confusing since everything is on the other side.
Not to insult your mechanical ability, does you timing light have an advance wheel and is it set to zero?
