Horse lenement would like work on stiff joints better but that stuff can be bad for a person too. Folks will use what ever kills the pain. They don't much care if it kills them.

I worked in law enforcement and we did a test on WD40 and a alcohol breath testing machine. Sprayed a bit on the skin and in 10 seconds ran the test and it showed up on the machine as a blood alcohol reading, don't remember how much.

I try to avoid chemical contact on my skin now.

Default WD40 as hand cleaner

If you work a dab of hand lotion (just about any brand) into your hands before getting them in car grime, the car grime will come off your skin much easier, regardless of the product/method you use.

I've used WD-40 to clean my hands. Mostly for tar and pine sap. I use Goop for grease/ oil form working on the vehicles.

The (late) grandfather of a coworker used to use lacquer thinner to clean his hands. That's a little too extreme for me.

Solvent based products tear your hands up over time. I get tired of ugly split and sore fingers because of grease and solvents. Why not use rubber gloves?

When in construction we used wd-40 often to clean our hands, usually before lunch. Our sandwiches tasted lousy, but better than nothing. Go-Jo was better, but rarely had it. Now borax or dawn is much better than WD.

Try the cheapest shampoo you can find. Dollar or and a quarter store. Use before water and shampoo.

There are also various products sold as "barrier creams", either for working with water based material or petroleum based material. I cannot remember the trade names for them but recall one sold as "Workman's Friend". Basically, one spreads the stuff on the hands, works it in well, then let's it dry a bit. As per the descriptor, these products create a barrier that prevents the grease and grit from getting into the skin and nails. Later, it all comes off easily with hand soap and water.

When I was working for the telephone company we used an underground wire that had a tar like water barrier and we used wd40 to clean it off our hands but for grease nothing beats dawn dishwashing detergent and warm water..

Does that make you think that some people may have been convicted using faulty technology?

I think the only real test is a blood draw. In my state, and every state I know, the actual law says blood alcohol content, not breath alcohol content.

If I walked in the house smelling like WD40, I'd be sleeping outside.

The best home concoction hand cleaner I have ever used is an equal amount of Dawn and sugar on the palm of your hand. The sugar acts like pumice but dissolves as you wash your hand. If water is not available you can just wipe off the Dawn and sugar with a towel. No after smell just clean hands.

Personally I have a pump bottle of my wife’s liquid laundry detergent (what ever brand that she buys on sale). Pump a squirt on hands and massage the dirty hands with a nylon style Brillo pad. Maybe use a bar of Lava if it is stubborn grease. I have boxes of the protective gloves but I always seem to get dirty hands before a glove get put on…. My cars and garage just lay in wait for me and attack before I know it.

My brother in law was a Navy Machinest Mate on a big vessel. He told me that the greases used on the engines, shafts, etc. was super thick, sticky, and smelly. The only way they could get clean was to do it in stages. 1. Use detergent motor oil on the greasy hands. 2. Gasoline to remove the oil. 3. Finally they used soap and water to get the gas off.

Now a days any medical professional will tell you not to ever handle any of these petroleum liquids with bare skin. It will cause you physical and mental problems later on.
