Default 94 Carb Jet Size for a 265 8BA?

What is the recommended 94 single carb jet size for a 265 cubic inch (4 inch crank, +60 bore) 8BA? Presently I have 55's and am getting 18 mpg in my '49 F1 with a '56 F-100 diff (I think that's 3:78:1 ratio) and 6:50 x 16 rear tyres. However, it never needs choke to start and I think might be running a bit rich. I operate mostly around sea level.

The stock jetting is a really good place to begin. It is good to remember the carb was designed to deliver a correct ratio of fuel weight to air weight in stock form. Only when air velocity changes significantly will the fuel curve need adjusted. And then, usually a small adjustment will suffice.

With that size engine and a single carb I wouldn't go lower that 51 and maybe 52 and stock 7.5 power valve. If you had dual carbs and hot cam it would be a differant story. Walt
