Ford B-17
Actually it has nothing to do with Ford but it is from 1945 and one of its engines is a Studebaker. I got to fly in this today(my wife got me a ticket for Valentines day) and I have to say it's one of the top 10 things I've ever done, there is nothing like it.

Re: Ford B-17
Best $300 I ever spent for a 30min ride. Sat in the nose turret on take off. Only 10 passengers at a time, we all had a chance to move around the whole ship during flight. Yes, bomb bay doors open, had to be careful not to step in the "hole" when moving from the front to the back.

Re: Ford B-17
I had the honor of going up in the 9-0-9, B17 two years ago. During our pre flight briefing the pilot told us that the average age of the crew was about 20 years old. These "kids" and thats what they were, were fearless. For those who have never had the opportunity to go up in a vintage warbird, it's nothing like a modern aircraft. There were patches all over the aircraft where enemy fighter rounds came thru the aircraft, amazing! The noise was incredible. We all owe these guy's our freedom!

Re: Ford B-17
When they run the engines up to take off is amazing. The feeling of that power is unbelievable . There is no way to explain it. And to be a 20 year old kid doing what they did. They were true heros.

Re: Ford B-17
rosenkranswa ............Do you keep-up with the Geneseo Warplane group? I've tried in vain to find any current information or updates on their B-23 project, which I'm immensely interested in hearing about. This would be N62G which came from Midland. DD

Re: Ford B-17
No, not really. We moved away from the Rochester area awhile ago, plus they had a political froufrou and the group split up when the move to Ithaca took place. A shame really, they lost a lot of momentum then.

Is this the one Coopman? When I was active with CAF, I would always see this one when we flew down to participate in the big airshow at Midland. I miss my old warbird days. |

Re: Ford B-17
Great Pics of the B-23 at Harlingen. I remember when they were at Harlingen with Lefty's white P-38. Back when it was the Confederate Air Force.

Re: Ford B-17
If the image quality is good enough you can see Studebaker at the bottom of the plate.

Re: Ford B-17
Fibber, am I jealous!
At first glance, I thought that was "Sentimental Journey". She was here a couple of months ago and I had a ticket to ride. Unfortunately the flight was scrubbed, just as we were boarding, due to a fuel leak inside the fuselage! Better that than an in-flight problem. Looking forward to her return. Re: Ford B-17
Every year we have a plane/auto show at Teterboro Airport. It has always had a B-17 that flew spectators. About 4 years ago I ponied up the $00.00 and went for a ride. Amazing!!!! One of the things I remember is that the fuselage vibrates when up in the air.

one thing you have to remember guys is those 20 year olds were a lot more mature than quite a few generations of 20 year olds now.
