Thumbs down Flathead remote engine temp measurement

My 1940 Ford flathead temperature gauge reads middle in winter and hot in summer. Engine does not overheat. Thermostats are 160 degree. Need way to measure engine block temperature more accurately???

Thanks for the quick response and information. I read the other posts on where to measure to get a more accurate measurement of the water temperature which is probably the most important rather than the engine block

Those remote infrared temperatures sensors are great. I used mine to determine that the little ladies oven was off by about 40 degrees and now I'm a hero! (They're good on the car too!)

Both a practical and a fun tool to have. My grandson get a hold of it once in awhile and takes the temps of everything, including the dog.

Aside from your interest in temperatures at specific locations, you may want to adjust your OE dash gauges.

As you probably know, these OE dash gauges, especially the temp and gas gauge, at best show approximations. I added good quality aftermarket gauges, including a voltage gauge. Then when I re-wired the backside of the dash board, I disassembled the OE gauge assembly and re-calibrated each of the OE gauges to best show what the mechanical gauges displayed. The OE temp and gas gauges required the most adjustment.

Do have any info to share on the calibration process? My 46 gauges are not very accurate.
