Yahoo !! it lives...or One Happy Geezer !
OK, I just had to put this on the barn right now while I'm still giddy as a schoolgirl ! IT LIVES !!! I took Purdy's advice from earlier today, pulled the plugs and shot in fresh ether, fliped the switch and Voila...the sweet smell of success...and exhaust fumes ! Quickly I dumped the contents of a wooden box right on the floor, C-Clamped a board accross the frame, tossed on the wooden crate and away I went ! Checked that I had brakes ( it'll skid ) and emergency too ! Then I went zippin around my lot.
I had to go home, get my teenage daughter ( in her pajamas) and raced back ( in my modern car) and had her document me on my new toy. Just look at the grin on that geezer's face ! Yeah, those are stop action moving shots ! So, while i am still shakin with joy...( you all know the feeling) I had to post these and share. This is the chassis I bought off of Fleabay a few weeks back and the guy thought I should pay his paypal fees. ( I didn't) but that's another tale. So now it's on to gettin a cowl and building a new body for Henry's Orphan. Or as the Stooges once said...Oil's well that ends well ! ( told you I was giddy !) |

Don't know how much clearance the fan nut has, but without brace rods be carefull. I learned the hard way on the 1950 Studebaker my dad gave me. When we removed the body and I drove it in the back 40 I didn't think about the brace rods and sent the fan through the radiator. Had to go to the junk yard and pay $5 for another radiator. |

Re: Yahoo !! it lives...or One Happy Geezer !
Congrats on giving your A some new life! Nothing more exciting in the world! I'll never forget the first ride I got in My "A" after my grandpa got it running. It had been sitting in his garage for nearly 30 years before he did anything with it, then he spent a couple years gathering parts, painting, assembling etc. He had me come out of the house and we rode around town with him sitting on a 5 gallon bucket and me sitting on the floor since he didn't have a seat yet. We were both grinning ear to ear! That memory will be with me forever. 3 years after his passing (last fall) I was able to tow the car to my new home now that I'm finnally a homeowner with a garage and I got to expirience that feeling again after I drained the gas, got a battery and was able to take it for a spin. MAN what a feeling!
Congrats on what I'm sure will be a fun project! |

It's great to see that big smile. I think we can all relate to that feeling. And I'm glad you held firm on the PP scam. I was one who said leave it, but it looks like you done good. It would be interesting to hear the story of how you convinced the seller to be honest.

I too will be this giddy very soon! I'm almost ready to put the rear drums on and get the brakes adjusted. I was wondering what your outcome was... Looks great!!

I've got my radiator leaned forward by not inserting the upper hose all the way in on both ends. Chassis is still up on jack stands, but not for too much longer.

Re: Yahoo !! it lives...or One Happy Geezer !
Congratulations. I'm definitely aware of what a great feeling it can be to take that first ride. I've got mine on videotape. I had to kneel on a piece of plywood and use a piece of wire to run the throttle. Working the brakes and clutch were a whole different experience. But it was well worth the risk.

Re: Yahoo !! it lives...or One Happy Geezer !
Thanks for all the "attaboys" ! I'm glad to bring back those memories for you Montanafordman...sounds like a subject for a new thread ! Oh, and the crank handle was there by accident !!! Enthusiasm got the best of me ! Check out my off/on switch...it came from Lowes ! and 700RPM, i just acted like the "extra parts" he wanted me to cough up $ for were junk...which they were...and nothing more was said about the extra $. Just played it cool and loaded the chassis. We shook hands and I was off ! ( There is a full explanation at the end of that thread)

Congratulations!! It looks like you are having fun. Nothing quite so satisfying as seeing a project come together and performing as you intended.
