Default 59 ab fuel pump rod tap noise

On a 59ab
If the fuel pump level spring is operating correctly the fuel pump Rod shouldn't or can't make a tapping sound , correct ?
If two short from wear it affect fuel pressure . Any thoughts ...

The steel tubular extension which slips into the bottom of the flanged, pot metal, breather housing, which also mounts the pump, can sometimes loosen from the housing and ride up and down on the pump rod. This will make a tapping noise.

JWL thanks , I'm collecting ideas before pulling apart . I don't think it's a lifter and the taping doesn't bother me ....
