Default rear shocks for 36 Ford

My originals are shot and I'm thinking of going with the Pete& Jakes rear shock kit (with the newer tube shocks). Have any of you tried this kit ? And how does it work? This kit requires the welding the lower brackets to the axle housing.Terry

I'm not much for welding anything to housings. I used the bolt on brackets from Pure Hotrods. They have their products in the in the swap section or on e-Bay (type in "banjo shock mounts" on the search). I just recently put tube shocks on my '40 coupe. I used their rear bolt on lower brackets and used my own brackets on the top. Pure Hotrods will sell you the upper brackets also if needed. The lowers bolt to the backing plate and wishbone at the rear of the banjo housing. You may have to do some slight grinding on the brackets to get clearance on the housings. It's a set up much like that used on the rear of the '48 Fords. The brackets are made 2" longer, so you can run a stock shock even if you lower the car(which I did by 2"). I'm very happy with the set up. Since the '36 wishbone mounting is different than a '40 you need to talk with them to make sure their brackets will work on your car.

Hi Everyone. No I haven't used the kit.

But, Terry the old-school in me asks could the kneeling shocks be made to work? Do you even have 'em? If yes, find Andrew Falandes and you will be back in business without any modifications.

Thanks for the info fellas. TJ-I went to that Pure Hotrods site...very interesting but haven't called them yet. Tangled-I do have the orig shocks and haven't dropped that idea of just having them repaired. Talkwrench-your work looks nice. Shocks look quite an angle
from verticle. Did install directions leave you with no choice on this? Terry
