Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
I've been working/playing in the garage the past couple of weekends, trying to decide which Flathead to drive up to the Moonshine Festival... As things are shaping up with some of the other Cigar City Flatheads guys, it's looking like only one or two will actually be driving Flatheads up this year. Because of certain time constraints, I may decide to drive up in my '03 F-150 and trailer one of my Flatheads...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
I took the '39 LZ out and went to a local AACA car show yesterday, saw some very interesting cars. If you are interested in taking a look at some of them, I've posted a bunch of photos on my page on FaceBook. I still can't get the hang of posting photos here on FordBarn, after my computer upgraded to windows 10...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Well, it just fourteen days and a wakeup to go to the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, GA. Still not sure what I'll be driving or if I'll be riding with someone. There have been reports of a lot of changes taking place, as far as the staging of the event, particularly with respect to parking show vehicles around the Courthouse and on the streets in the downtown area. Additionally, this year we (the Cigar City Flatheads) are not having a driving tour on the Friday of the event so I guess we'll have to wait and see how things work out this time. I hope that any changes don't negatively impact this years event or future Moonshine Festival events.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Hi Gene, are you and Rita going to be at the Moonshine Festival this year? I've been busy doing non Flathead related things for the past several months so, I didn't try to schedule a Friday driving tour but, it would be nice to get together, maybe do lunch in Dahlonega...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
No, Vic, we aren't going. As you know, I sold our '40 last fall. I'm removing the chevy engine from the '38 and will rebuild the transmission, do some clean-up and rearranging, install the flathead, etc. I got pretty disgusted with the congestion in the parking area 2 years ago so I'll wait to see if the organizers can clean it up before I go back. I'll miss our Friday cruises. They were a highlight of the trip for us. I hope you all have a good trip. Tell everyone we said "Hello".

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Gene, I'll miss seeing you guys. Good luck with the '38. I missed last years Festival but heard all of the stories about the congestion, etc. Hope it doesn't turn out to be one of Those events where nobody goes because it's too crowded...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Bruce, according to all the reports, the storm will stay to the east of us and not have too much of a negative effect on the Tampa area... I hope...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
I found a more hidden surprises while working on my 47 Tudor on Sunday afternoon. First of all I changed my spark plugs. They were no problem getting out but were just fouled up badly. I replaced them with the Motorcraft SP-473 / AL7C. Then it was time to drain and fill my rear differential fluid before taking it for a drive. So when I removed the bottom drain plug, just a little fluid dribbled out. After my endless cuss words about the previous owner, I filled it up with fresh 90W mineral oil, then later changed the oil in the flathead. As soon as I dropped the drain plug, that oil came out midnight black. I couldn't believe it. And the oil filter looked like it had been in there awhile. Shaking my head!
Now Neuie (my 47 Tudor) has fresh 30W non detergent motor oil with a zinc additive, new filter, will idle for however long I let it without dying. Plus I discovered more rust under the read seat that I sanded and treated. Now I can finally drive it for three weeks before I hibernation. Well, there went my entire summer...... |
