Flsthead tachometer suggestions
I just returned a SW Wings tach that I could not get to register correctly at idle.
I've read a couple of blogs from guys having problems with today's tachs with similar problems. I'm hoping to pick your brain as to a tach that has worked well on your flathead. While function is a priority, second would be to keep the old school look. I need a column mount and I have converted to 12 neg ground. The old Suns use to be flawless, maybe I need to find a good used one.....

Although mine is 6 volt, my Westach has been great. Here is their website: http://www.westach.com/

I found a nice 500k Sun "Football" tach on eBay, and had it converted to solid state by Williamson's Instruments. Vintage look and works great.

Re: Flsthead tachometer suggestions
I'm using an old Stewart Warner out of a 62 Studebaker Hawk.
I had to buy the control module for it from studebaker intl, but it works good and definitely looks as old as the rest of my gauges. Sorry though, it fits in the dash. But it is an option. |

I think I have one down in my basement. It belonged to one of my brothers. It takes a battery that he said was no longer available. |

Re: Flsthead tachometer suggestions
Battery isnt the problem...that the batteries was left in them and corroded to pieces is.
Its original equiped with a 1.3v mercury battery. Sticking in a regular 1.5v AA cell makes the reading way off. There are rechargeables that is about right or go with a voltage regulated source. Best is a solidstate conversion. |

Yes he said it was a mercury battery and I think the old batteries were removed, I might dig it out and take a look at it.
