Default The rarest Ford hubcap in existence

Of Ford production vehicles 1932-1948, this is the rarest hubcap. It does share the same stamping profile as 1939 DeLuxe, but was never used by Ford on a 1939 vehicle. It goes on the same bolt pattern and the cap fits the same as 1936-1939 wheel. Here's a hint, more than one engine was used when this cap was on this year vehicle.
What is it for? The first one to name the vehicle it goes to, gets a free pair of NOS rear end of axle seals for 28-48 Ford. There is most likely a Fordbarn member who owns one of these vehicles, but they are rare.
My memory is a little foggy but I'm fairly sure I remember its application. If not I will welcome a correction.

[QUOTE=oldford2;1216115]Not true. 2 V8's, 6 cylinder, 4 cylinder for the trucks and you said vehicles.[/QUOTE They offered two v8s but did not offer 4cyl or 6cyl, so 1939 pickup shared a V8 hubcap with 1939 Standard

As an NOS "expert" why do you keep denying the availability of 6 and 4 cylinder engines in 1939? Better do your homework and if you are wrong, how about a correction.

Not 1940 Pickup but that does make me wonder what cap was used for 1940 PU when it had the 4 cyl. Ford dropped the V8 in the tailgate when they offered other engines. I don't know the answer.

Not sure how rare that one is but I have one that is the same with the exception mine has a V with an 8 to the right and below the V. Everything else looks the same.

What you describe is a typical 1939 DLX cap, quite plentiful.

Very well could be. I removed it from a customers 36 Ford. I also have 3 36 Ford hub caps off the same car. A couple of them are pretty good shape.

getting colder, ambulance would fall into the category of non production vehicle. The vehicle with these hubcaps could have been sitting in a Ford dealershi showroom.

Maybe a '39 passenger car or light commercial vehicle that was built with a little 60hp engine.

ps..I didn't read all the previous replies, so this may have already been mentioned.
