Default 30-31 Roadster seat question

I have new seat springs from Snyders and the backrest spring has a taper on one edge. Does the taper go on the bottom where the seat cushion meets or on the top towards the package tray?
Thanks

The back rest only goes in one way, with the wide dimension to the top resting on the package tray. I just measured this one and the upholstered back rest is about 48" wide at the package tray and 44 1/2" at the base where it tucks in behind the cushion.
