Default 39 or 40 pedal assembly question??

I know that the 39 pedal assembly with juice is a popular upgrade for the 35/36 ford chassis, but why not a 1940 pedal assembly? What is the difference between a 39 and 40 pedal assembly. thank you

If memory serves me correctly, the 39 and earlier clutch release shaft on the tranny uses a lever, while the 40 up uses a different method. The 40 assembly works if you use a 40 release shaft. The 40 assembly is much less suseptible to clutch chatter due to forward/backward motion of the motor.

thanks, so a 40 will work? I wonder how the holes mount up and if the Xmemebr needs to be altered at all?

the 39 & 40 both need slight mod to chassis if you use the 40 much cheaper to get but you need the equealizer shaft & the pivot ball & the clutch release shaft on the trans.the 40 works as good as the 39 there was sum one on the barn that made a temple which he would give for the asking. you can make your own template. also cheaper to rebuild the 40 assembly. eather one works well.39 e.z.r but more expensive.

The reason for the difference is that '40 cars came out with column shift, and the clutch linkage had to be redesigned to avoid interference with the column shift linkage. As others have noted, the '40 will work as well as the '39 if you get the complete setup out of a '40 car or '40-'41 pickup.

Find Richard EV8 on this site, he has a neat solution for your problem... All bolt on, no cutting up the frame... The 39 pedals are much better for the clutch hook up, they are not a straight bolt on... (I saw one of his systems installed, pretty clean) Karl
