Re: English Built '35 V8 22HP Three window coupe
Tony, thanks for your kind offer, we will start work in about three weeks or so on evaluating the engine and see how bad the frost damage was from the winter of 1962, I might well be in touch for parts
I have now dated the original engine / chassis number to September 1935 H -54-748, the engine was US made early 22HP, the car was probably assembled in Dagenham October / November 1935 and registered 3rd December 1935. Kind regards David |

Re: English Built '35 V8 22HP Three window coupe
Interesting how the ports are all reversed from what we are used to, with the exhausts siamesed between the cylinders and the inlets where we would expect the exhausts in our "normal" engines. I can see the advantage of only two exhaust passages passing through the water jacket, instead of three, but would be interested to know why the design was abandoned after only a short while. We have to remember that nothing was cast in stone in this period and all the manufacturers were still experimenting and pushing the boundaries. Take the tin sided later small v8s for example.

Are those Marschal headlights? Are your trafficators Lucas? and does the rear bumper have the two chamfered strips in the bumper? Every European 35 I've seen has had smooth bumpers!!! |

Here are 2 pages from the British Sales Brochure on the 1935 Ford V8's. It may be hard to read, but the Specs list Bore 2.6" and Stroke 3.2". RAC Rating 22 HP. What a great find, beautiful car. |

Re: English Built '35 V8 22HP Three window coupe
Judging from the Fords illustrated in this British Ford V8 Sales Brochure, it would appear that there were only four body styles offered in Great Britain for 1935. Fordor Touring Sedan, Tudor Touring Sedan, both in the Deluxe Series, plus the Cabriolet and Three Window Coupe, which were only available as Deluxes. The lower photos shows the illustration on the inside front cover. |

You may be lucky and be able to get that engine unstuck without having to rebuild it. Time, patience, and Marvel Mystery Oil.
