1941 ford PU
we're looking for some restoration details for a '41 pu. does anyone know or maybe have photos of stock interior details? We are trying to find an original hot water heater, what do they look like? Also dome light and switch. does anyone know where the ground wire attaches to the voltage regulator? Thanks for any help.......Bill

Re: 1941 ford PU
I don't think they had a dome light in pickups. At least the two I have had did not. These photos are from a 40. Not sure the heater is correct and I know the steering wheel isn't.

Re: 1941 ford PU
You have an after market Model 81 SouthWind gas heater. I have a working JR SouthWind heater(smaller than the Model 81) installed by the original owner in my 40 tonner. Not Ford correct, but makes heat way faster than the water heaters. It works really well for defogging the windows.

Re: 1941 ford PU
I have a 1939 PU and am having the same problems finding authenticity data on it. Maybe we need to get all the 38 to 41 PU owners togeter on our own site to compare notes on what is right and wrong on these jewels.

Re: 1941 ford PU
Mack Hils did a book on '32-'47 Ford pickups that included a lot of factory photos from the Ford archives.
As for the heater--even the correct Ford heater was a dealer installed option, most optional equipment back then was dealer installed. There were dozens of brands of aftermarket accessory heaters back in the day sold through service stations, garages, auto parts stores and retailers like Sears and Montgomery Ward. Harrison, the GM subsidiary that made radiators and heaters for GM cars, went after a piece of the aftermarket pie as well. They sold the same heaters that got branded with the various GM brands through the aftermarket under the Harrison name. Most people back in the day bought one of the aftermarket heaters instead of buying one from the dealer. So, if you're building the truck to be a enjoyable driver rather than a Dearborn Award contender, the aftermarket heaters are plentiful and affordable. I have a Hot Wave brand in my '38 pickup. works great. |
