Default Things that go "Bump"

So I have had a loud metallic thump in my car and several of you were good enough to make suggestions as to what the problem may be. I find that the problem is good old stupidity on my part. I had put the rear spring center clips onto the u-bolts upside down. So the thump was the square nut head seating into the square hole in the cross member when I made a sharp turn. Just happened that both times it was on left turns. So I want to thank all of you that participated in the discussion and now the problem of thump in the night is cured. Maybe not so much with the stupidity, that seems to be ever present.

You also found a defective shock.
So it was a worthwhile exercise.
