I have Randy Gross steering and could not be happier even if it was free.

I helped a friend install Randy's F-100 box and he is very pleased with the ease of steering. Randy is also a good person to deal with. That's my two cents.

I have Randy's converted 29 steering column in my tudor. I ordered it with new plated spark & gas rods, and his longer horn rod (you need one to use your original light switch) installed. It made for an easy swap.

Some will tell you it is like having power steering. Not true. You will still get bigger biceps steering your model A. What you will get is no play and incredibly accurate steering. The littlest movement of the steering wheel results in movement of the front wheels. I must admit that with some muscle you can turn the front wheels while my tudor is standing still, but you can't steer it with one finger, like my 2017 F-150.

I concur with the Randy Gross choice. We've used one for about ten years now and it has worked great in the sedan. EZ Steer has some problems with a thrust system that fails and cannot be repaired. I understand the owner's health is poor and he hasn't been able to work on his product.

I installed one of Mel Gross' F-100 steering boxes many years ago in my Vic. It worked great, However, a few years later it developed a leak. Mel told me to bring it back and he would fix it. I told him I'd rather spend the day at the dentist than have to pull that box back out. Penrite solved my leak problem. After Mel's passing I told Randy the story. He said pull it out and I will fix it for you. About a year ago I had the engine out and removing the box was an easy task. I did and Randy fixed it. You can't beat a warranty like that.

Last week I helped a friend install one of Randy's F-100 boxes. Makes a big improvement in steering. Randy is a good guy to deal with. His phone contact: 714-292-8660.

But you're Tom Endy. I'm nobody from noplace and I know that. That aside, I've done business with Randy and have a good opinion and one of his steering gears. For a Model A, the F100 is pretty big, but too lazy to do a F1 myself which would be better scaled. Randy's inherited business is good for us that do more driving than showing. Call him. You wont be bothering him. Trust me. Plus, why ask for second hand information.

Randy is excellent to talk to. I have his f100 and although the steering is a little easier than the stock box, I find that it has more free play. Maybe mine needs a little tightening adjusting.

I had the same problem with mine (to much play). I talked to Randy at the time and he suggested how to adjust it. Still no luck. That was years ago. At the time I thought the F1 was pricey. But, what is pricy to one might be cheap to another. I would have the old one rebuilt. Snyder's had mine rebuilt on my Phaeton and I am happy with the job that was done.

I have the 56 pickup box in my roadster with a short pitman arm. Steering is really easy. I never turn the wheels with the car stopped, but with any bit of forward or backward it is very much lick power steering and out on the road is one finger all day long. Drove close to 300 miles yesterday and my hand wasn't even sore. Arthritis has been a problem. Now it is just a breeze to steer and with the Mitchell Tranny and OD it is sweet. Get a new short arm, don't cut an old one down if you want easier steering. I used the light rod and set up from my 7 tooth on the bottom of the 56 unit. After a bit the box got loose so I readjusted and it is great now. Easy to adjust also. 7 tooth was terrible even after rebuild by a "pro."
