Gas gauge Late 1931
Gauge reads about 2/3 full when tank is full. There are no leaks at the gauge . Im thinking it might be better to try to bend the rod through the fill cap after removing the screen.Anyone have advice with this? Should I use wooden sticks so as not to cause a spark?

the float may have partially sunk, if you can see it and its bobbing on the durface yea a wood stick and a hooked piece of stiff wire will let you push or pull the direction it needs.

Re: Gas gauge Late 1931
You may want to push the float rod down and see what the gauge reads when the float hits the tank bottom. I'd be more concerned about it reading zero when empty than F when full.
There's a bit more to it than just bending the arm up/down. Twisting the float rod sideways in a J configuration (to clear the flame arrestor) will change the overall float sweep travel from empty to full permitting fine tuning of both ends of the scale, but then I'm an OCD perfectionist. |

I would drain the tank, add 2 gallons of gas and adjust to just read zero. Like it has been said no big deal if reading is off when full.
