Default Speaking of Air Filters

I exhumed this from the nether world of the garage. Anyone know anything about it?

91A is definitely for a 39. It looks a little different then the 39 I had. I wonder if it is a truck air cleaner even though it is not stamped 91C ?

Thanks Pete and Mike! I wonder....When I was about 14 my Uncle bought a '39 Fordor from a guy that my Dad and Uncle both knew well. I went with my Uncle and we loaded it onto the car trailer and took it home. Dad rebuilt the engine and got everything working. I wonder if that air filter came off that car? I was just a kid.

You're likely right. They had lot's of cars they bought, fixed up and sold but I only remember one 39. That was a great car and made quite an impression on me. It took awhile to get it going and by the time it was going I had my license. I recall chaufering my Uncle to a few "house parties" as he wouldn't dare drive after drinking. The car was sold and to this day I wonder where it went. By chance if any Barners who live in the TriCity area of Eastern Wa state remember: The car was owned by Bob Ennis. Bob owned a gas station in Kennewick. I believe it was a Texaco station. My Uncle was Laurel Shute. This would have been circa 1976.

If you had a couple of those and wide spaced fenton dual carb intake it'd make for a nice look.

Your air cleaner is indeed a '39 model, manufactured by Oakes Products, who supplied this design from February 1939 through 1941.

suffix A1 = AC
suffix A2 = Oakes
suffix A3 =Industrial Wire (was too late for the 1939 model year, beginning in December, 1939)

A unit in the condition yours is in, having such a beautiful patina on an original decal such as yours, I imagine these days would be worth considerably more than a fully restored unit. You have a small treasure there!

Thank you! Fascinating information. We are looking to downsize and have many parts we know little or nothing about. I'll likely be posting ID inqueries in the future.

This is very accurate advice in regard to manufacturer and model years these were installed upon vehicles built by Ford.
A small treasure? Well, it has been said one man's junk is another man's gold.
Ebay this rascal and I'm thinking $30ish, maybe a bit more if you find the "right guy".

Mike, the kicker is the decal. You just don’t find them in that beautiful condition. This would be a find for someone with a Rouge car, and that’s where the value is.

Thanks Kube and Alan in post#11. Kube commented in another thread about letting the market decide value by listing on Ebay. Very good advice. I also realize that being rare or exceptional doesn't necessarily make it valuable. Having said that there have been times in the past when I wrestled with myself about purchasing an item such as Alan described and the question I always asked myself was, "where else am I going to get one?".

Ebay, as we all know, can be very fickle. I've seen items sell at "crazy town" prices and a few days later, the identical item, sell for a fraction.

I wish you the best of luck should you decide to sell this.

Tomcarman: Are you interested in selling your 39 91A dry air style air cleaner to me as the final piece needed for completing the 60HP engine that I'm doing a cosmetic restoration on, hoping to maybe donate it to the EFV8Museum in Auburn, Indiana. before I finally ride off into the sunset

The engine as purchased was basically complete with just a few small items missing that I have now located and purchased, other than an air cleaner. I like the dry model better than the wet model now that I have seen them side by side for the first time. I'm a 34,35,36 guy having restored one of each year to National Dearborn Award status. By just restoring the engine and transmission, cosmetically correct, I feel very confident I can get the limited project completed before it is my time to ride off into the sunset.

Please let me know if you are interested in the sale, and how much will you be asking for the item?

My name is Lawson Cox, email is [email protected]. As stated, this item if purchased will bring an end of my quest for parts and I'll be able to set my attention to doing my best work possible in limited time..Lawson Cox

Please let me know if you are interested in selling it for such a project, and what will you be asking for it?

Please send your response directly to me at [email protected].

Thanks, and Merry Christmas from the oldest dude on the barn

Seems like I inquired about this item before, but if so, here goes again.

Do you want to sell it and if so, how much? Lawson Cox 770-784-0507

Thanks Tom. I got it on my phone but not in my inbox on my computer. Go figure. I think the best way to work through this is via a phone conversation. Please give me a call at 404-316-6748, cell or 770-784-0507 landline. Or, send me a PM with your number and I'll call on my dime. I am pretty much technologically challenged it seems. Thanks, Lawson
