Flywheel/Clutch Alternatives??
Other than a Model A flywheel, what other flywheel/ clutch combinations can be used behind the original 4 cyl. Model A engine with the original trans??????
Will a v8 flywheel/clutch work and, if so is there anything special that needs to be known?? Tinkirk/Terry |

Re: Flywheel/Clutch Alternatives??
I'm running the 8-N tractor clutch with a lightened Model "A" flywheel.

Yes V8 clutch can be used. I believe there's a kit. I don't know the particulars.

Re: Flywheel/Clutch Alternatives??
I had a V-8 clutch & pressure plate installed, along with a lightened flywheel, over 10 years ago. The clutch pedal pressure is much lighter, and I've never regretted doing any of it. Before I had it done, a well-meaning Model A owner warned me the lightened flywheel would ruin the driveability....I have noticed very little difference.....

Terry, there is one bit of info that has not been mentioned above, the flywheel must be machined to accept the alternate pressure plate. If you are familiar with a stock flywheel, then know the 'stepped section' must be removed and once the flywheel surface is flat, the bolt hole circle for the P/P must be laid-out drilled and threaded. |

so the v-8 pressure plate and clutch disk can be used on a lighten flywheel! but a v8 flywheel can not be used on a model A motor is that correct? |

Re: Flywheel/Clutch Alternatives??
A v8 flywheel can be used, but the starter must be modified, as the ring gear is in a different position. I tried this several years ago and did not like it. I now have a lightened and modified for V8 clutch. The V8 clutch has flyweights on the levers to apply more pressure at speed, so the pedal pressure is less than the 8N tractor clutch, which does not have the flyweights.

Re: Flywheel/Clutch Alternatives??
I have a different opinion, [nothing new about that]. I have a lightened flywheel and v8 clutch and pressure plate. Works fine but the original setup works fine and the extra weight of the flywheel maintains momentum. Just wished I had stayed with Henry's way of doing things. Jack
