Default 97 9519 top gasket....

getting the 39 ready for saturdays Par Sem car show and noticed my 9519 top gasket appears to be melting. Starts, runs and puuuuurs like a kitten.

I work in Berlin NH a lot and get several containers of the non ethanol super for my antiques, so I don't think this crap gas is the problem. No signs of this on the Holey in my 77 F150 or the NH on the T.

Uncle M or Mr.Charlie hope you chime in there. Thinking just a new gasket or might there be more UGLY inside, any input would be great.

Are you running some oil in your gas? Looks like residual oil from a constant seep in the gasket.

Someone maybe used permatex when assembling it...and that´s what you are seing now...either gas dissolving it or heat making it come out a bit.

The top housing is warped from over tightening the screw and age, the gasket is not compressed enough in the corners, take a rag sprayed with carb cleaner and wipe it off, the gook is making adjustments to the gasket----
I have straightened such parts, though there is some risk of breakage, I have seen casting that looks good on the outside have hollow slag inclusion that breaks open when straightening

Judging from the photos Teflon tape was used on the gas inlet fitting. It will dissolve in the presence of modern gasoline and create another problem for you inside the carburetor.

Seems like if it happened over a period of time, rather than go thru replacing the gasket (which may not cure it), just clean it with lacquer thinner or acetone then see what happens.

39,
It sure looks like pmatex. I've got gaskets, but the air horn needs a little heating

and flatening.

Hey thanks for the input fellas, this carb was done by Ken about eight years ago and has run flawlessly just noticed this getting worse as of late.

Charlie I will get this down to you in the fall and work your magic. Ross will call you later this week, saturday looks good for the show.

There is no teflon tape on any vehicle I own, that's for plumbing son
