Default Locking Radiator Cap Question

When I purchased my 1929 pickup, it had an aftermarket type radiator cap with a Motometer and Wings and the cap was a screw on type. I have now purchased the locking type cap and after fitting the Motometer and Wings back on the new radiator cap, I just wanted to find out which way the cap is supposed to flip.

Thank you......

Mine flips back, toward the windshield. It just seemed to make sense so I could stand in front and add water.

I vaguely remember that it won't lock to the radiator in just any position, so I had to figure out where it would lock, having the hinge more or less toward the windshield, and then tighten down the motormeter so it was straight when it was closed.

Mine would not clear the hood when it was oriented to filp back, (the hinge was too close. So I turned it around to flip forward, Works fine and is not noticable.
