Rear Motor Mounts
Has anyone replaced the rubber pads to the stock rear motor mounts with engine in car and if so what is the degree of difficulty?

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
Frame spreader, or a bottle Jack helps. Pull the floor boards.

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
It is not too difficult, I went back to original mounts from floaters so it was somewhat different but not much.

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
Side-mounted spare tires make this more difficult... Found this out when trying to convert stock mounts to floater-motor-mounts. The side spare mount does not allow the motor mount to be moved aft and out.

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
Thanks for the advice guys. I'll just loosen them up and do one side at a time. We'll see how it goes.

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
You may have to loosen the cowl bolts to allow the frame to spread.

I have done it. It does test your patience -- a lot!

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
52 years ago I changed the rear mount rubbers, a little foggy how I did it LOL. The new rubber didn’t help my issues that much, recently changed to cast iron float a motor that really helped!!!

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
I changed mine about 6 months back and I'm no expert mechanic. As I recall, all went slow but well.

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
Removing and installing the mounting bolts use a 1/4" rachet and adapter on the socket to turn it in and out much easier.

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
I would recommend removing the passenger side motor mount completely first, because there is more room to work. Then remove and replace the driver's side motor mount. when that is done, finish replacing the passenger side motor mount. You will have to jack up the motor to take the weight off of the motor mounts.

Re: Rear Motor Mounts
You can do it while the engine is in the car, but a frame spreader sure is a nice thing to have.
Here is a video about how it all goes together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucAb...S61UN&index=19
