Lincoln Zephyr Pitman Arm.

Does anybody know the dimensions of a Lincoln Zephyr steering arm/pitman arm, overal length and centre to centre?

The 39 zephyr pitman arm is 5 1/4 center to center.

Hoping it was longer than a Ford pitman arm which is 6" centre to centre.

I've shortened Model-A pitman arms with good success... why not make a longer V8 one out of 2?

What i do is cut a real long V in the arm so you have the most possible weld in the joint... bevel it out deep and gradually build up the weld... let it cool slow

in the end I usually hammer my weld a bit and then smooth and sort of polish it to eliminate any tight areas that may let a crack form...

you could even gusset it on the outside then afterwards for extra security if you wanted...

I know some people say never to weld on steering components... but if you do it right... it'll be alright

That was my original plan until recently when I read of an old Hot Rod that had '40 steering and used a LZ steering arm for quicker steering.
I asked around and thanks to Ken and others the LZ arms are coming up shorter everytime.

It makes sense that the LZ would be shorter because it would give lighter steering in the bigger, heavier car.

All the years because of the reason above.

So far '39 and '48 have come up shorter.
