I just found one of these at the Chickasha swap meet yesterday. I hope to use it to flycut the valve pockets on a head that was milled. I did notice that it was going to also open up the valve area with the included bit.

Jason, I beleive the correct terminology is "shaved" head. A block gets "decked".
The KRW flycutter won't help you if you have clearance problems for this reason. You'll need to solve that problem with the use of a thicker head gasket.

I just noticed that I'm missing the other cutter. I was wondering what the wrench was for.. You can swap out cutters to either edge cut or fly cut

Well to help the guy out that needs the valve pockets deepened because of milled heads or high lift cam, it's very easy with a Bridgeport or milling machine. I lay a head gasket on the head and scribe around top of the valve pockets, set the heads on a machine on a 5 degree angle and use cutter ( I think 1-7/8 ) cut close to the line and down as far as you want. It will just cut up in that radius and won't even touch on the piston side of the head. Very easy and nice clean job. Walt

I'm using an 81A head on my 8BA milled for .040" piston clearance. This gives me 7.5CR on a 239 engine to improve mileage.

You would need " spot facing " cutters as all end mills and shell mills have a small angle on the bottom of the flute from the cutter od to the center of the cutter. When they are plunged to a depth with no X or Y movement they create a very shallow cone shape. There are businesses that make " form cutters " and they will put the profile you need on a insert. I shoul say used to, because sending the tooling work offshore may have put those guys out of business. I would cut the valve pocket dia and corner radius to depth with a shell or fly cutter in a milling machine, then in another setup I'd ase a regular end mill to clean out the center of the pocket and make it flat. Here is a picture of what the tool does when used as designed on a 81A cyl. head for use on a 59 block.

I borrowed one of these and used it to put 81-A heads (with big A in center) on a 59 series engine. It worked as described above, taking material out of part of the valve pocket. I got tired of wrenching that thing on all 16 pockets.
