Will '38 deluxe and '39 std hood sides interchange?
The title says it all. Are they a bolt-in swap?

Yes - but the stainless trim will be out of alignment.

Thanks for the reply. I see that the '38 trim is on the hood and on the side panel on the '39. I'm thinking of using just the grill sections to make open hood sides similar to the '37.

While the Hood sides will interchange, they have a completely different style where they lineup with the Grille. the Loop which is clear to see on the Tan 39 Standard goes the opposite way on the 38 Deluxe Sedan. Compare the Hood Sides on these 2 cars. |

Re: Will '38 deluxe and '39 std hood sides interchange?
A lot of people get the 1938 Ford Deluxe and the 1939 Ford Standard mixed up. Check out these 2 pictures and you will see that the Hood Sides are a different shape. It is also interesting o note that on the 38 Ford Deluxe, there is a little Prop on the left hand side to keep the Hood in the open position. Because lots of people don't know how to lower the Hood, they frequently just try to pull it down, & thus bend the Hood. You will see lots of these models damaged in this area, which also bends the Chrome Strip. To lower the Hood on the 1938 Deluxe Fords, you must first lift it up, then you can lower it. With the 1939 ford Standard models, there is no Prop, but it is kept open by the Springs, a far better idea, especially for novice mechanics. |

Here is a picture of a 1939 Ford Standard with the Hood Open. Springs on each side keep it open, and to close, you just need to pull it down, a much better idea than the system used on the 1938 Ford Standards. |
