If you have the coin to spend go with at least the 6.0 or higher
You won't be sorry

The Ford Model-B head ( with a cast-in "C") made for 1932-34 engines has compression ratio that is only slightly higher than a Model-A, at 4.6 to 1. The high compression "B" head sold during the Model A era was 5.22 to 1.

It’s a c head for a b motor. A b head is for an a motor. The progression of letters is the order of part changes. You can fit either head on either motor, but the water pumps are a different bolt pattern.

If you pay attention to your timing you will have no problems
People have run higher than 6, 7,
With no issues
Pick up one of Jim Brielies books lots of info in there

I have a B 5.22 head on my late 31 sport coupe and one with the B ground off on my early 28 tudor. they both use stock 4 bolt water pumps. The C heads needs a 3 bolt pump.

There seems to be a lot of concern about high compression doing damage to babbitt, this is definitely not true! It is detonation that will damage babbitt. With higher compression you may need to use less spark advance, everything else being equal, there will be no problem.
