Default splash shields

I am looking to replace the missing rubber splash shields on the inner front fenders on a 56 fairlane.
Do they go on the inside or the outside of the inner fender metal?

Each fender apron has three rubber splash shields. the rubber piece located closest to the front is curved at the bottom so that it will sit on top of the car frame when the apron is installed. That piece is held on to the fender apron by staples from inside the engine compartment.
the middle piece gets stapled onto the backside of a metal panel which gets bolted on to the fender apron from inside the engine compartment.
the back piece is flat and shaped to fill the gap between the bottom of the apron and top of the car frame. It also is held on to the fender apron by staples from inside the engine compartment.
Some places may sell them all in a kit which might save you a little money as opposed to buying the individual pieces.
