Re: oil pressure
If it is too low, here is the adjustment procedure: Remove and disassemble engine. Regrind crankshaft and reinstall with new, properly sized main and rod inserts. Replace camshaft bearings. Install new or rebuilt oil pump. Reassemble and reinstall engine.
If it is too high, remove and clean pressure relief valve in oil pump. |

Re: oil pressure
You can shim the pressure relief spring.

And assuming you're trying to increase it on an older engine... ? In a previous life (before marriage) I used to build and race off-road VW's with the flat 4 air-cooled engine. They have a vaguely similar style oil pump and there was an 'improved' oil pressure kit available with a replacement/stiffer pressure relief spring and different piston/valve. The above posts by scrapiron and 40 Deluxe are both true. The second solution may or may not be as effective as you hope, and isn't a good substitute for the first one. Unless the relief spring & valve are stuck or damaged... repairing, replacing or shimming the relief spring will not solve the problem if resistance to oil flow thru the engine is already lower than the spring's upper limit. And the pump itself may be worn out, not capable of producing enough pressure. . Last edited by dmsfrr; 12-26-2016 at 05:54 PM. |
