This engine was supposedly rebuilt, correct? Looks like most of the "rebuilt" flatheads I've looked at in my travels.

Signs of water also. Unless you’re paying scrap value I would walk from this engine.

Yup, looks a rebuilt one. Like maybe back in '58. Mart could be using it in a hill climb in a couple of weeks, but most of us would have a lot of money invested in short order.

I've got a lead on a couple of reportedly good blocks. Unfortunately they are 5 hours away, but if they are as good as stated should be worth it.

Thanks Ken Henry. This has been good.

My takeaway is that you did very well to be ready with the wire wheel and degreaser for prep, a few really good lights, and a good close-up camera rig.

I'd have my laptop for the next piece of data. I snap bunches of pics then review them while consulting on the value of the deal or having a snack.

I sure hope for good things for ya but good as stated is as good as air.

In my experience, if it's out of a later truck, like an 8RT, I would stay away from it as the trucks and other commercial vehicles they were in had hard life some hauling heavy loads on hot days, maybe uphill creating a hot or overheated engine resulting in those cracks between the valve seat & cylinder walls. Others may have had better experiences with the likes of the 8RTs.
